A race against the clock: how new tools for diagnosing bloodstream infections could save lives
Newly developed technology out of the University of Calgary is 2.5x faster at diagnosing bloodstream infections than what is currently being used in healthcare.
UCalgary-led team develops rapid diagnostic tool for fighting bloodstream infections
A team led by Faculty of Science biochemist Dr. Ian Lewis, PhD, has developed a new technology to rapidly detect potentially life-threatening bloodstream infections. Using current technologies, it typically takes two to four days to identify infection-causing bacteria and determine which antibiotics will work. The rapid test can provide a result in under 20 hours.
RID partners with DynaLIFE
DynaLIFE is pleased to announce a new partnership with Alberta-based Rapid Infection Diagnostics (RID) Inc. to develop a rapid test for diagnosing urinary tract infections (UTIs). This new technology could allow diagnostic test results to be available over 30 hours faster than is currently possible.
RID secures UCalgary UCEED support
Thanks to funding from UCalgary’s UCeed initiative, what started as a late-stage academic project is now poised to become a real-world tool for swiftly diagnosing infections.
