Rapid Infection Diagnostics Inc. has been selected as one of Canada250 by Scale Up Canada

Rapid Infection Diagnostics Inc. (RID) has been named one of Calgary50, a recognition of the 50 most scalable startups in Calgary for 2025. The program is the definitive investor showcase of the most scalable Calgary startups, supported by Calgary Economic Development, Scale Up Canada, and the local tech ecosystem of Calgary.

The goal of Calgary50 is to highlight the Calgary region’s thriving innovation economy on a global stage and to help raise $100 million in capital for startups across the region.

Startups selected for Calgary50 are Calgary-based companies with the following characteristics:

  • Canada-made innovation with high potential for global commercialization and export

  • Positive impact on the world towards environment, food security, health outcomes, etc.

  • High potential for advancing and strengthening the local economy

RID was founded to address a clear and urgent need in healthcare: reducing death and disability caused by infectious diseases. Our diagnostic platform is built on a novel integration of mass spectrometry and metabolomics, enabling clinicians to identify pathogens and determine antibiotic susceptibility in under five hours—cutting diagnostic times by 30 to 40 hours compared to current culture-based methods.

This approach has been validated through collaboration with Alberta Precision Laboratories, supported by 17 global patents. Our flagship assay, BSIDx, delivers bloodstream infection results significantly faster and at lower cost, and is already in use in Alberta. RID is preparing for province-wide adoption, with additional clinical validation sites in progress and partnerships underway with major diagnostic manufacturers.

Calgary50 is part of the broader Canada250 initiative, a national campaign to identify and support 250 high-potential startups across Canada. The initiative provides selected companies with access to investors and strategic partners, helping them scale globally.

RID is proud to be building from Calgary and contributing to both the local innovation economy and to global health outcomes. We extend our thanks to Scale Up Canada, Calgary Economic Development, and to our partners and supporters including Genome Canada, Genome Alberta, Prairies Economic Development Canada, Alberta Innovates, and the University of Calgary.
